This guy is wasting no time !

Sorority Row

I chose Sorority Row because the story line is similar to ours.

In “Sorority Row” the film starts off with the camera craning down the black trees to show horror and mysterious which will represent to secret of the film. It also introduces the house that is the Sorority house.

The camera slowly tracks to the house with low lighting, suddenly a scream. This is not shown as to whom is screaming because it sounds like a murder, the audience will want to know who has died so early in the film. Then the lighting from inside sees a girl running out of the doors, this could be seen as someone chasing her. The camera has long shots throughout the party scene to show all the different crazy things going off such as the cheerleaders dancing. Also it shows a lot of half-naked girls to entice the male audience, as they will want to pull in more money from the cinemas if more men just want to go to see girls in underwear.

The cheerleaders have their own long shot to show the cliché of the American teen horror films that there are cheerleaders in them. Even though the audience can get fed up of predictable horror films they will like the cliché of sexy cheerleaders, because they know it will lead to sex.

The camera has a medium shot of a boy shocked at all the girls, this gives off humour to the audience. Especial male audience who will think that he is probably never seen a girl before.

The drink is shown being thrown on the boy because he has down something wrong. The camera shows the girl not the boy to show the humour that his girlfriend is angry but he could just find another girl at the party, which makes the audience know that sex or more girls will be involved.

A lonely woman in the kitchen to show that the college students still get told off for causing problems. The other reason is that audience will feel that this party is so cool that the teachers let them have it this will entice the audience into what else could happen at the party.

All the girls are together in a room, the camera has a close up to show different expressions on their faces when they say why they love each other, this is so the audience can straight away know which girl is which and also they can have a category for each girl as to how the plot will go.

The music builds up tension so the audience feel that something is building up, as to if she is dead or not.  This makes the audience want to keep watching.

In the car the cameras is fast pace and unstill to show erratic movements of the group as to what they are going through. Some are laughing, crying, scared or worried this is good because the audience have no clue how her boyfriend will take the prank. This audience will feel the suspense of the unknown and they will keep watching.

The place the group goes to is very dark and mysterious, this builds up the tension of the problems that can occur and the plot of the story, as to who will be the murder and what will happen to the group. This leaves a lot more suspense to the audience.

There is a deep focus on the cranes to show the danger of the place as to where they are and this could end in a really bad way for them.  This will contribute to the horror suspense.

There is a long shot to how the dark and mysterious place to where they are and they are so remote. There secret show is safe here, but the audience know that it is too early in the film to know that their secret will be safe. Even through the audience already know the secret will not be safe they don’t know the secret.

Audience

We  think our film should be a certificate 15, this is because our film does realte to the use of drugs and overdose and would not be appropriate for anyone under the age of 15. It may be disturbing to some people. I think it will atract males and females between the ages of 15-25 and possibly people older at a push. This may change depending on the filming and what we choose to include.

title effects ideas

I think we should have title effects made of smoke this could represents the drugs that they are taking. Things like this would look good

Don't Say A Word - Comparison

I have chosen to look at Don't Say A Word (2001) because it has the same genre as our film plot - psychological thriller. It also stars a little girl which ours does too. One of the main characters in our plot end up in hospital having nightmares and believing her firend is dead and simailarly the girl ends up in hospital in Dont say a word.

Sorority Row trailer

Film Plot:
A group of sorority sisters try to cover up the death of their house-sister after a prank gone wrong, only to be stalked by a serial killer

In our own film the drug affect goes wrong, as one of the girls end up in a hospital with the nightmare that their cousin has died

sorority row features the girl taking pills and the group of friends thinking she is dead.
in A.BAN.DON the girls think their friend is dead.

Genre research - psychological thriller

Psychological thriller is a specific sub-genre of the broad ranged thriller with heavy focus on the unstable emotional states of characters, in combination with mystery and thriller. However, it often incorporates elements from the mystery and drama genre, along with the typical traits of the thriller genre. In addition to drama and mystery, many psychological thrillers contain elements of, and often overlap with, the horror genre, particularly psychological horror.
Psychological thriller – Characters are no longer reliant on physical strength to overcome their brutish enemies (which is often the case in typical action-thrillers), but rather are reliant on their mental resources, whether it be by battling wits with a formidable opponent or by battling for equilibrium in the character's own mind. The suspense created by psychological thrillers often comes from two or more characters preying upon one another's minds, either by playing deceptive games with the other or by merely trying to demolish the other's mental state
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_thriller

Is more mentally based, relating to mind processes but focuses on the plot more than the characters.

Themes: Reality, mind, perception, death, identity, existence and black comedy.
These major subgenres help develop the plot of a psychological thriller film, shaping the characters' personalities. e.g. usually character will find the true identity/the devil side of himself/herself in psychological thriller, in which it is one of the archetypes—the loss of innocence.
Two characters usually mess with each others heads and play mind games on each other.

Low key lighting, very tense music and black and white shots(to make shadows stand out) would be an ideal.

Here are a few examples of psychological thriller films The Inside, Don't Say A Word, and A Beautiful Mind.

Here are a few examples of psychological thriller posters Shattered Soul,Orphan, and Abandoned.

Final story line

We have decided to go with Beth G's idea as we think it has more potential than the others and we all agreed that it seemed a very good topic as drugs aree very popular with the young generation nowadays and could be a good way of showing how the drugs affect you.

A group of three friends are left alone at home on their own, and one of them has brought over some drugs. They decide to be reckless and try them - only once as all they want to do is try them.
One of the friends brought over their cousin who becomes worried, as she has epilepsy and she doesn't know exactly know how the drugs will effect her. After everyone else has taken some of the drugs, they start to tease and taunt her. One of them even becomes a bit aggressive.
The cousin feels overwhelmed and decides to take the drugs to stop the others.
The three friends cheer and giggle to themselves, until the cousin falls to the ground and starts to have a fit. The three friends watch as she continues to fit, not knowing what to do.
When the cousin stops fitting and does not get up, the three friends come to the conclusion that she is dead and start to panic.
This leads to them battling the guilt and the high. Fights ensue, and more drug taking occurs.
They are all frightened, and when mixed with fear and drugs it causes all three of the girls to start seeing things. Mainly, the cousin who has just died.
The three friends become wrapped up in their own hallucinations. One of them hears her cousins voice, blaming her for what happened. This causes her to move from place to place in the house and cover her ears, and occasionally scream to drown out the voice. Another one of the friends starts to see the dead cousin. The other starts to feel paranoid of everyone, even herself. This leads to chaos.
However, when they all crash from the high they awaken to find that the cousin, who they thought had died, is there taking care of them.
Everything, including her death, was all in their heads.

Beths Storyline

Id like to do a horror/thriller about two girls(about 17 years old) who accidently get killed in a car accident when they met their boyfriends and went driving recklessly down the country road. Then both girls return as ghosts to haunt the 2 boys who survived the car crash as revenge for their carelessness and that they were responsible for their deaths. Leading them into having nightmares and eventually killing themselves too when really none of it ever happened (this is revealed at the end of the film).
