Title Sequences from Thriller/Psychological thriller films. Above is the Title sequence for Alfred Hitchcock's 'Psycho'.
In the sequence the text distorts when transitioning into another set of text. This suports the psychological elements of the film, as distortion of the mind of characters can occur in psychological thrillers. An example of this could be hallucinations and paranoia.
127 Hours is partly a thriller. The title sequence is simple just '127 Hours' appearing over the film or simply in black and white on its own. It's a clever way to introduce the film as it doesn't draw an audience in with a fancy title sequence. The simplicity contrasts with the story of the film and the characters emotions throughout - nothing that happens in the character's mind is simple; his desperation makes him almost crazy and the titles appearance does not hint at that at all.
The title that appears over the film (the top image on the left) is similar to the style of the numbers on an old alarm clock. It's also made to be the main thing in the shot, even though it's small, the contrast of black and yellow helps it stand out. It's used to look like the start of a countdown, however throughout the film it counts up towards 127 hours. This is to emphasise the amount of time the protagonist has to endure the circumstances he is in. This causes the audience to remember the number and to feel shock.
