Cape Fear Title Sequence

1.       The Universal logo comes on first to indicate it’s a Universal film. Then there is a gradual rain/storm sound appearing. The Universal logo is then appearing as a water reflection.

2.       There is a sudden loud violin noise after a black scene and water appears again with a sepia affect.

3.       Names appear with a diagonal affect to show paranoia also the music is very haunting and repetitive.

4.       A bird flies over the water when the lake image is changed to a darker view. I think the bird is representing a bird’s eye view of a situation, giving the impression of the family being Max’s puppets

5.       The music builds up again to reveal the title of the film. This builds up the tension of the lake and that will be the main point of the story.

6.       Then an eye appears as a water mark under the water image. I think this represents being on the lookout for the problem at the lake

7.       The names appear one after another horizontally. This to me shows a normal story line but plays on the audience as it is not normal

8.       As the lines of the water keeps changing it gives a signification of the change in direction of the story. This could represent the way Max changes his personality to different members of the family.

9.       This shows a person’s face again as a water mark. The water marks are lasting about 2 seconds and the audience will know they have seen it but they don’t know where. This will make them paranoid and feel uneasy.

10.   There is then another change of ripple of the lake then a what looks like a hand appears to go into the river. This makes the audience think again about what it is making them interested

11.   The red colours start to come in more and more as the title sequences goes along this can show that the story will get more and more “heart to heart” between Max and the Lawyer meaning more personal.

12.   The silhouette of a body comes on with a green background. To me green can mean jealous this could show that maybe Max is jealous of the lawyer’s life. As green can also mean monster as it is normally a childlike monster colour this can show that Max is a monster. Also shows mostly hands as it could represent playing God or hand puppets of the family.

13.   Red appears again to show danger. A droplet of some sort is water marked again to make the audience think.

14.   This shows another eye image, there is a negative effect on the eyes this could show that negative means bad.

15.   This turns the red back ground to a blue creating a double negative. This could mean from bad to worse

16.   The girl then appears talking about the magic of Cape Fear, but she talks in a very firm and sarcastic with a smirk. This shows that she is saying that something weird could happen at Cape Fear.
