15 minute analysis of OCCUPANT

I have decided to look at the film 'OCCUPANT (2011)'.

25 year old Danny Hill's grandmother just died giving Danny the chance to move into her enormous rent controlled apartment in Manhattan. Danny must lock himself in for twelve days before he can take over the lease. Theres just one problem - he may not be the only occupant.

As the opening credits come onto our screen the camera pans across the front of the apartments and pauses on a long shot of all the windows in complete darkeness apart from one which it then zooms into.

A diegetic sound of horror gets louder as the camera zooms into the woman laid in the bed (medium close up to close up) as she seems to be gasping for breath having an heart attack.  It then pauses on a cls up shot of the woman gasping for breath looking startled with the title 'OCCUPANT' over the shot.

Her faces then fades to a black background with the title still staying the same.

And then to a shot of the city with the title again staying the same.

A train then goes across the screen once the title has disappeared.

We then see a shot from a hand held video camcorder of Daniel sat across on the train.

He then gets off the train and the camera follows him.

He then confronts a girl accusing her of stalking him she goes on to tell him about a blog. He tells her he is on his way to identify the body of his dead grandmother.

We then see a shot-reverse-shot conversation with Daniel and a guard.

They get into a lift which is very dark and gloomy.

Daniel claims to have seen something but the guard ignores the comment and carries on expalining the apartment and the room seems dingey.

He walks around the house.

Woman walks in and asks him to identify the body - goes on to explian that she had an heart attack and died of natural causes and then zooms out of the body bag.

The guard is stood at the door and then looks down to the right of the shot. It then shows the table he is looking at which has scratches which look like claw marks (match on action).

Daniel then sits down with the man (long shot), they are discussing Daniel living here and it then zooms out of the window.

As Daniel leaves he sees another man - law attorney. Enter a coffee shop as a pan shot follows them as they move. The makes up a story about him living with his grandmother before she died because she couldnt cope on her own. (sat in a coffee shop, shot-reverse-shot).

Pauses on an over the shoulder shot of Daniel with the words 'DAY ONE' on the screen (just like the title was)

This then fades to a black background with the words staying.

Then to a long shot of a car coming towards the camera as the words disappear.

Daniel gets out of the car met by the guard to move into the flat.

There is a shot of the door which stays on the screen a while.

He locks the door and lets his cat out which bites him and quickly moves.

He hears a strange bang and goes to see what it was - radiator.

There are jump shots of different views.

He walks into the bottom of the stairs and speaks to an old lady but she ignores him.

Guard questions why he left the flat when he shouldn't.

A birds eye shot looking down the stairs to see them both walking up.
