Optimum Releasing

Optimum Releasing has partnered with Film4 in films such as Four Lions and Donkey Punch. In relation of being inspired wit Film4 productions, I have chosen Optimum Releasing as a distributor because the films that are distributed are marketed at a niche market.

Optimum Releasing's first film was The Third Man in 1949, this film was based on Pulp novelist Holly Martins travels to shadowy, postwar Vienna, only to find himself investigating the mysterious death of an old friend. This film is under the thriller genre, I like this idea of a film as it has the style of film noir. In the film noir style the low lighting shows that mystery side and I would like to incorporate this in my own film. It makes films look unique as the period of noir films has finished. Also the use of the natural white light gives the characters a dark shadow and makes a negative atmosphere and a sexy look, where in our film I want there to be male attraction for female characters.

Why should we use Optimum Releasing
Our film is a very niche market film because  a mainstream distribution would not like to promote a film that shows the drama of drug use. Usually a company like Warner Brothers use a funny or happy story line, a thriller with such a dark ending could possibly affect the companies reputation as parents may not feel safe letting their young children watch a film that as a relationship with a film about drugs and suicide. Also in our film there is likely to be a small budget as there is really not big explosions or special effects as most of the scenes done will just use make up for Chloe when she is dead or a voice over when Beth hears her friends talking to her in her sleep and I think a mainstream company would try and change the film to use the technology available.
Also using an independent company the will allow us to use local bands for music and local areas for films, also using Barnsley for film making would be good for the community atmosphere as they will be able to get involved. This is important to me because I know that a lot of people from Barnsley aren't used in filming, it would also allow people my age to be involved and have an experience that only people in places like Manchester or London would get.
